I’ve been told on numerous occasions how much fun snowmobiles are. Now I’ve had the chance to ride one for myself, and I’m not disappointed!
Once the formalities of paperwork etc. were completed, we were given our helmets and goggles, then it was out for an experience briefing and instructions on how to operate the machines. Soon after it was our turn to take the controls, setting off on a trip through a snow laden winter wonderland, best resembling a scene from a fairy tale.
After about 45 minutes of driving deeper and deeper into the forest, we stopped beside a little track. Apparently the next part was to be done on foot. After the din of the motors the almost total silence descended on us like a shroud, everything seemed to be hushed, even the forest itself. A little way down the track I could smell the aroma of freshly cooked waffles, and sure enough, shortly afterword’s we stepped out into a clearing where a charming little cottage stood, smoke rising from the chimney – we had arrived at a waffle stuga!
Waffles with cream and jam followed by strong coffee was the next priority, whilst listening to the fascinating history of the little hunting cottage we found ourselves in. Once everyone was warm and had had their fill, the guides literally charmed the birds from the trees! Tempting them down and feeding them by hand with bits of waffle. Incredibly beautiful birds too, it’s the first time I’d ever seen a Siberian Jay before, let alone fed one – a real treat!
Then it was back of the snowmobiles to enjoy the trip back. I’m not surprised these guys were voted 2015’s top Sälen tourist attraction, they are extremely helpful, the equipment is new and well maintained, their customer service is excellent and the experience itself is enjoyable and informative.
Thanks for a fantastic afternoon!
